Thursday gave relief not to the construction agencies and locals but hundreds of stranded pilgrims when Badrinath highway, route to Rishikesh were opened after several hours of persistent efforts . All the route was opened by Thursday evening.

Heavy rains halt pilgrimage, nearly 1k devotees stranded in Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib....

Heavy rains across parts of Uttarakhand have brought the Char Dham yatra to a halt, triggering landslides that left nearly 1,000 pilgrims stranded on their way to Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib at various spots in Chamoli district on Sunday. Source TOI -  LINK .

Vehicular traffic remained suspended on the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway-58 and other roads in various districts for the fourth consecutive day today due to landslides triggered by torrential rains in the higher areas of the state.

Vehicular traffic remained suspended on the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway-58 and other roads in various districts for the fourth consecutive day today due to landslides triggered by torrential rains in the higher areas of the state. The restoration work done by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the Public Works Department (PWD) proved insufficient as pilgrims were stranded at various places along the Char Dham Yatra routes.
District administration officials claimed that efforts were being made to repair damaged roads but sporadic rainfall was hampering their efforts to restore vehicular traffic in the disaster affected areas of the state.
They said stretches of the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway were washed away at four places in flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall in Chamoli on July 1. An alternative Nandprayag-Sawarisain-Kothiyalsain route was made to rescue pilgrims stranded along the yatra route. A total of 56 roads were still damaged though four days had passed since flash floods struck Chamoli district.

The traffic to all five famous shrines (including Hemkund Sahib), Rishikesh and Badrinath remained disrupted due to a landslide at Bajpur. District administration and BRO officials had been working to clear debris, but sporadic rain was hampering their efforts.

Due to cloudburst and excessive rain last night there was landslide on the road in Nand Prayag, Gauchar & Chamoli due to which traffic was halted. At 03:00 PM  today Roads have been cleared in most areas and traffic movement is normal. Landslide clearance work is ongoing in Chamoli which will be cleared by 6pm today.
landslides are common on theses hills and have nothing to do with mass destruction.
